Austrain Winter Peas ( 5 pounds)

 Austrian Winter Peas
5 lbs
These annual peas are often seeded with another small grain and are a favorite for deer food plots. This is a viney winter annual pea with stems 2-4 feet long. They have high nutritive value and are used for silage and green manure in the South. These peas will not winter over in the Northern states, but can be planted in the North for fall deer forage. Peas prefer near-neutral 5.5 to 6.5 pH (add lime) or above.
Plant peas at 1 to 3 inches deep to ensure contact with moist soil and good rooting.
Austrian Winter Peas can be grown on a wide range of soils, but does not do well in wet, swampy areas.
Plant at 30-40 lb per acre for deer alone or less if mixing with other seeds.

As nitrogen fixing, green manure, peas are easily killed by disking or mowing after full bloom - the stage of maturity that provides the optimum Nitrogen content. Bloom usually occurs about 60 sdays after planting.
