New Zealand Forage Rape
Rape seed is a favorite brassica plant for deer food plots,
rapeseed does well planted with clovers, chicory, turnips, etc.
Rape seed produces high quality forage brassica, that is very drought tolerant. The deer will love the large succulent leaves, it has a growth pattern like turnip. Rapeseed prefers well drained soils, not for use in a flooded, poor drainage, area. Rape prefers a ph range of 5.5 to 8.3 ph. Plant Rape seeds no deeper than 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch preferred, seed can be drilled or broadcast the no plow way. Covering seeds deeply prevents germination. This Rapeseed can be planted with no tilling, various types of rapeseed are included in many deer and turkey plot mixes.
It is tolerant of cold, drought and heat. Therefore, it can be grown throughout the country and into southern Canada.
Plant 2 lbs per acre mixed with other crops, or up to 5 lbs planted alone.
